Become a UBS trustee
12/08/2010
Next year under new legislation the Union of Brunel Students will formally register as a charity with the Charity Commission.
This move towards charity status by UBS is one that most other student unions in the UK are likely to follow.
The UBS Trustees Board meets five or six times a year and is responsible for overseeing the management and administration of the Union. Until now the Board has comprised of four full-time student officers and three other students elected by the student body. The Union’s new status means that the Board now needs to include up to three independent trustees.
Following a review of its current composition the Trustees Board has identified the areas of useful experience they would like their new trustees to possess. Sought are volunteers with strong skills and solid backgrounds in Communications and Marketing, Fundraising and Membership Engagement and in Strategic Development.
The role of a trustee provides a great challenge. Becoming a trustee provides the opportunity to use your skills and experience in a new environment and context.
The UBS promotes the welfare and interests of students, liases with the local community and encourages personal development. The new trustees will have a chance to make a significant impact, offering valuable guiding and mentoring to the Board members.
The UBS is interested in promoting these trustee roles to its alumni. Anyone interested in applying for the role should email the TrusteeWorks team at Reach on trusteeworks@reachskills.org.uk. The TrusteeWorks website www.trusteeworks.org.uk has general information on the roles and responsibilities of being a trustee and resources to support volunteers through the trustee journey.
